Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in America.
As Libertarians, we seek freedom and liberty in a nation where all individuals are sovereign over their own lives, and no one should be forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others.
We believe that respect for individual rights is essential for a free and prosperous nation, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized.
Consequently, we defend each person's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest and does not violate the rights of others. We welcome the diversity that freedom brings. The nation we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any authoritarian power.
We support a free market and believe government has a limited roll in our lives and businesses. We support public policies that will reduce the government's impact on our daily lives and the burden of taxation.
We support private property rights and we reject the abuse of Eminent Domain. Condemnation of private property in order to transfer the property to other private interests servers to undermine our basic rights protected by our Constitution.
We support charitable organizations over government welfare programs.
Most importantly, we believe in personal responsibility.
It's these principles that make the Libertarian Party unique in the American political process.
