GEORGIA LIBERTARIAN U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE BUCKLEY SAYS BARKSDALE’S DEBATE SNUB A LOW BLOW

Atlanta, August 3, 2016 —Allen Buckley, the Libertarian Party of Georgia’s U.S. Senate candidate, says Democrat Jim Barksdale’s failure to include him in a debates invitation is a “low blow.”

On August 2nd, the Associated Press reported that Barksdale invited incumbent Johnny Isakson to participate in a series of six debates relating to economic issues, to take place in Albany, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon and Savannah. According to the article, Isakson’s campaign manager, Trey Kilpatrick, says Isakson looks forward to debating and has asked his team to start debate negotiations.

On May 25th and June 22nd, Buckley invited Barksdale and Isakson to a series of six one-hour debates, to take place beginning in mid-September. Neither the Isakson campaign nor the Barksdale campaign responded to Buckley’s debates invitations. Both Isakson and Barksdale also have repeatedly failed to respond to an August debate request of the Athens-Clarke County Library.

Buckley said: “Given the fact that there are three of us on the ballot, and my prior unanswered challenges for an identical six debates, I consider Barksdale’s attempts to exclude me from the debates to be an insult to the voters of Georgia. This race is important. Georgia voters need to hear more from all three candidates on the ballot, not less.”
