A Look At The Libertarian Platform Part 2

This week we are going to look at the following passage from the Libertarian Platform. Then we are going to see how it fits with the Trade Promotion Authority Act before Congress today.

Below is a passage from near the end of our platform(Libertarian Party Platform)

“Because government derives its just power from the consent of its free citizens, government must be accountable to the people and each individual. In an effort to create complete accountability, governance at all levels must remain transparent. Free people have an inalienable right to inquire about all government actions. Whereas individuals must be responsible for their own actions, likewise governing bodies must not be immune from responsibility themselves. A non-cumbersome means to seek restitution from government must be available.”

We have included some very important principles that we feel are crucial to a free people with a limited government. They include:

“Government Derives its just power from the consent of its free citizens”

“Government Must Be Accountable to The People and Each Individual”

“Governance at All Levels Must Remain Transparent”

“Free people Have An Inalienable Right To Inquire About All Government Actions”

“Government Bodies Must Not Be Immune From Responsibility Themselves”

What is the Trade Promotion Authority? Well, we really cannot certain. It’s shrouded in secrecy. Most of those casting votes for it have not read it. But that did not stop the U.S. Senate from passing it in a Bipartisan manner.

“On May 22, 2015, the U.S. Senate passed the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act, better known as Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), by a vote of 62–37. At the same time—and in the same vote—the Senate passed the Trade Adjustment Assistance Enhancement Act (TAA). The bills were passed, respectively, as Title 1 and Title 2 of H.R. 1314, or the “Trade Act of 2015.” Source: http://www.cato.org/publications/free-trade-bulletin/trade-promotion-authority-trans-pacific-partnership-what-lies-ahead

The TPA is now before the House of Representatives and there is a strong push to pass this bill once again with Bipartisan support.

With our Libertarian platform, you would not have to wait to see how we would stand on this issue. A bill shrouded in secrecy, which has not been read by those voting on it, would not be supported at all.

This process is not transparent to our own Representatives and Senators nor is it transparent to us. All we are able to do is guess at what may be included in it, which is not a way to run a government accountable to each of us.

Looking at the above principles, do you feel that the TPA has satisfied them? Do you feel that the Government is being accountable to you?

There’s a full-court press by Main Stream Media to get this bill passed. But they have not read the bill either. (Would this be a good time to pass the Read The Bills Act first?

If you disagree with secret government negotiations on bills and laws passed that will impact each of us, then we urge you to do two things:

Contact your U.S. Representative and tell them your concerns, and that you will be watching how they vote.
