ACTION ALERT: Help California STOP Proposition 14
Fellow Georgians,
I write to you today with a request from our fellow Libertarians in California about an issue that affects all Californians' abilities to have more than two choices on any election ballot. As part of the 2009 budget negotiation process, politicians from the state's capital of Sacramento placed an item on the ballot for the citizens to vote on whether they would prefer an "open primary," during the summer prior to a general election in the fall. This primary would have all candidates running for an office on the ballot, but would result in voters selecting only the top two candidates for any elected position vying for election on the fall's ballot, even if those two candidates belong to the same party.
If this should pass in California, like many trends across the nation, political and otherwise, it moves eastward. While there are not many differences between Republicans and Democrats here in Georgia, can you imagine if our choices for Governor this fall were only Republican John Oxendine or Republican Nathan Deal? How about choosing between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for President in 2008?
To assist a variety of organizations (see list at the bottom) against this proposition that limits voter choice, The Libertarian National Committee has asked Libertarians across the nation to do what they can to prevent this liberty-limiting proposition from passing. In this effort, Region 1 LNC Representative, Stewart Flood, has included this initiative to his
Liberty Manager program, where Libertarians and other freedom lovers can participate in active calling to California residents, urging them to vote AGAINST Proposition 14 as part of an effort to "
Stop Top Two."
I strongly urge you to sign up to make calls over the next seven days to Californians. The system could not be easier:
- Sign up at Liberty Manager (www.libertymanager.com)
- Under "Optional Information" enter "prop14" in the first field
- Submit
While you await your registration confirmation, take a look at
this video for some training about how to make calls.
This will be on the ballot on TUESDAY, JUNE 8TH!
Thanks so much!
